The Army refers to the commonly known slouch hat by its official designation,Hat khaki fur felt (KFF). The word ´slouch refers to the sloping brim, pinned with the Rising Sun badge. The brim is made from rabbit-fur felt or wool felt and is always worn with a puggaree (fabric band). The eliptical patch on the flat side of the brim denotes the soldier's squadron. In this case Lt. McEvoy served in New Guinea in the 108th Signal Squadron (Army Reserve) with the 4th Brigade. He was later held as a POW in Changi until release at the end of the second world war.
