Silver Stater

Description


This stater (07GC032) was minted in Corinth in the fourth century BCE. The obverse side of the coin depicts a Pegasus, suggesting the cultural and mythological significance of Corinth. Pegasus are associated with creativity and the arts which reflect Corinth's diverse culture. The reverse side featuring the head of Athena with a Corinthian helmet with an eagle shows the city-states reverence for Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare. The distinctive Greek style worn by the ancient Greek warriors, showing Corinth's military power. The eagle on her helmet symbolises

Zeus, often being associated with divine protection and authority.
