Bronze Wine Strainer

Description

MU3700 is a bronze wine strainer. Strainers such as MU3700 were commonly used to sieve sediments when serving wine. The object is a round concave ‘bowl’ which has an irregular shape and thickness. The ‘bowl’ of the strainer has been perforated with holes arranged in concentric circular bands which radiate out from a central hole. A small handle extends from the ‘bowl’. This handle gradually thins and curves slightly at its end. The object is intact and relatively well preserved however corrosion and oxidization can be observed on the surface, particularly on the rim and base of the strainer.
