Women and Gender in the Ancient World

This digital showcase of objects in the Macquarie University History Museum invites you to question how artefacts shape or disrupt our understanding of gender roles in the ancient world. Who made these objects and what roles did they play in antiquity? How does museum display shape our understanding of how they were used in the past? What assumptions do we bring to their interpretation?

These objects feature as a digital museum trail in third-year undergraduate studies of History and Archaeology at Macquarie University. The trail was designed by Dr Julia Hamilton and Professor Peter Keegan in consultation with Dr Josephine Touma and Michael Rampe.
