Arrow head

Description:

This flint arrowhead was most likely made on a flake and retouched bifacially. The bottom end is rounded, while rest of arrowhead forms a triangular shape, and the arrowhead itself has a grey-tan colour of varying shades. There is some chipping to edges of the arrowhead, which may reflect the wear of the arrowhead after having been used. Arrowheads such as MU435 are abundant in the archaeological record, attesting to the widespread use and production of arrowheads in ancient Israel. The arrowhead would have been the ‘projectile’ point - the functioning part of the arrow - and held different uses depending on the context it was found within. Some arrowheads are purely decorative, but more commonly they were used for hunting wild animals for prey in Neolithic times, and used as part of a weapon in a military context as early as the Bronze Age.
