Mud or silt grains, that may include silt-sized particles of fine rock fragments, mineral clasts (e.g., quartz, feldspar, etc.) and minor clay minerals.

Key Features

Shale is very similar to siltstone, though shale demonstrates “fissility”, where it is easily broken along the bedding planes, unlike siltstone.
