Inscribed Fresco Fragment

Description:

MU395 is a small fragment of a wall fresco from Pompeii. The angular fragment has been painted with a dark shade of red-brown paint – a popular colour used in Roman wall painting. In the middle of the fragment six letters have been deeply inscribed into the surface. The fragment is significantly abraded in some sections which has resulted in the paint having been worn away and the underlying white stucco surface of the wall being revealed.
